Different civilizations flourished on the island.
In ancient times, Minoans, Naxians, Milesians and Romans settled there.
Later, Amorgos came under Venetian occupation and Ottoman rule.
And these civilizations left many sights on the island that are worth discovering:
The top attraction of Amorgos, carved into steep rocks, was built by Emperor Alexios Komnenos in the 9th century BC. To visit it, one must climb nearly 300 stairs, while the view is magnificent.
On the hill above the port of Katapola are the ruins of ancient Minoa, where according to tradition the summer palace of King Minos was located.
Dominates around the imposing rock, in the center of Chora. It was fortified with the arrival of the Venetians at the beginning of the 13th century.
There was one of the three oracles that existed in ancient Greece and was called the hydromanteion of the Aegean. At the same spot the icon of Saint George was found, in honor of the saint they built the church of Saint George.
It is the oldest monastery on the island as it dates back to the 7th century. BC, frescoes from the Byzantine period are preserved.
An ancient fortress from Hellenistic times.
In Arkesini. It dates back to approximately the 4th century BC.

In Kato Meria, it was probably the catholicon of an old monastery in the past. It is celebrated on 26/7.

The rusty hull of the ship has been lying for 60 years in a cove before Kalotaritissa.
In calm weather the landscape is ideal for sunset lovers.
Through a 2 kilometer path that starts from Lagada you reach the beautiful church. 15/8 it is worth visiting.
